Silky manufactures hand saws in Ono, Japan using SK-4 carbon steel blades cut by laser for precise tooth profiles. Founded in 1919 under the original TAMAKITSUNE brand, the company developed proprietary manufacturing processes including a patented saw setting technique that improved cutting sharpness. Blades feature taper-ground geometry to reduce friction in the kerf, while chrome plating protects against rust and resin buildup from green wood cutting.
The GomBoy folding saw introduced the first rubber-clad handle in the industry when it launched in 1985, winning the Japanese Good-Design prize. Available in 210mm through 300mm blade lengths, GomBoy models offer medium teeth at 10 per 30mm for general cutting and large teeth at 7.5 per 30mm for aggressive green wood removal. The PocketBoy compact series provides 130mm and 170mm blades in fine, medium, and large tooth configurations. Both designs include two locking positions for inline or flush cutting.
Silky's Zubat fixed blade saws feature curved profiles in 330mm and 390mm lengths for arborist pruning and reaching into dense canopy. Big Boy models range from 360mm standard versions to Outback Edition designs with arbor composite handles and black nickel-tin blade coatings for corrosion resistance and reduced glare. The Katanaboy represents Silky's largest folding category — 500mm to 700mm blades requiring two-handed operation for trail clearing, firewood processing, and survival applications.
All Silky blades use electro-impulse hardening, heating only the tooth tips to extreme temperatures while leaving the blade body flexible. This process extends tooth life approximately three times longer than non-hardened teeth. The non-set tooth design forms teeth within the blade width rather than projecting outward, reducing friction during pull-stroke cutting. The 4-RETSUME configuration groups four teeth in combinations that facilitate sawdust discharge while maintaining smooth action.
