The Spartan KABAR delivers 7 inches of CPM MagnaCut in the most iconic American fighting knife profile ever produced. The flat saber ground clip point with its distinctive fuller remains faithful to the December 1942 design that the Marine Quartermaster Department approved for general issue, but underneath that familiar silhouette sits thoroughly modern metallurgy. MagnaCut at 61-63 HRC provides the edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance that 1095 carbon steel simply cannot match. CNC machining ensures consistency the original WWII production couldn't achieve. Deep cryogenic treatment and SpartaCoat PVD finishes—Tungsten DLC (black) or ZrN (Flat Dark Earth)—complete the upgrade.
The Kraton G handle maintains the ergonomic oval cross-section that made the original comfortable across extended use. Hardware runs 301 stainless steel with matching PVD coating. At 12 inches overall and 10.8 ounces, this is the full-size fighting/utility knife that served Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Underwater Demolition Teams—just built to contemporary standards. This knife exists because of what started as a joke. When Spartan Blades co-founder Curtis Iovito quipped to KA-BAR CEO John Stitt about acquiring "a small knife company from North Carolina," nobody expected it to lead anywhere. Months later, after due diligence and careful forecasting, the two companies formed Pineland Cutlery in 2019. KABAR bought half of Spartan Blades, combining over 120 years of manufacturing expertise with Spartan's reputation for premium tactical cutlery.
Stitt had long wanted to produce an upgraded KA-BAR worthy of the company's heritage. While Pineland was developing, metallurgist Larrin Thomas was completing his work on CPM MagnaCut—a stainless steel Crucible Industries designed specifically for demanding cutlery applications. Spartan Blades took the assignment to build the definitive modern KA-BAR using MagnaCut and their elite-grade processes. The result is the best KA-BAR money can buy.
