Spartan Blades Machai
The Machai is a chopper/utility blade manufactured by KA-BAR Knives in Olean, NY as part of Spartan Blades' collaborative lineup. Curtis Iovito designed it with a 6.625-inch reverse recurve blade, flat ground from 1095 Cro-Van steel at 56-58 HRC. This high-carbon tool steel delivers toughness and edge retention for hard-use chopping and combat applications. The black powder coat protects against corrosion while maintaining a subdued tactical profile.
The forward-balanced design concentrates weight behind the cutting edge, increasing chopping efficiency without requiring excessive blade length. Full-tang construction meets CE Canvas Micarta handles in black or green, providing a secure grip in wet or dry conditions. At 11.75 inches overall and 0.668 pounds, the Machai is compact enough for belt carry while delivering serious chopping power.
The injection-molded sheath features an active retention thumb lever for secure carry and quick deployment. Made in the USA with a lifetime warranty on materials and craftsmanship.
In Greek mythology, the Machai were daemons—or spirits—of battle, representing the frenzy and chaos of combat. It's a fitting name for a blade designed to cut through obstacles with aggressive efficiency.
