on Orders Over $99The TOPS A-Klub borrows its geometry from a weapon, not a garden tool. The gunstock war club — a traditional Native American close-quarters weapon with a forward-angled striking head — was the blueprint designer Amanda Kaye handed TOPS when she built this machete. The resulting profile sweeps forward and widens toward the tip, concentrating mass at the impact point and delivering the kind of guillotine bite that a straight-spined machete cannot replicate. Every swing lands with the blade moving fastest exactly where it is also heaviest.
Amanda Kaye is an avid hunter, a longtime student of Native American primitive skills, and — incidentally — a Naked and Afraid alum. That pedigree shaped the design toward a working tool rather than a showpiece. The 12.38-inch blade runs 1095 high-carbon steel at a hard 5mm spine with TOPS' signature differential heat treatment, hardening the edge for cutting performance while leaving the spine softer to absorb shock. That matters on a chopper this size. Hit a hidden nail, a frozen knot, or a chunk of quartz in the duff, and a fully hardened blade chips. A differentially treated blade flexes and keeps working. One Alaska trapper running this knife in minus-60 temperatures reports zero chipping through repeated alder, spruce, and willow trail work. The Tungsten Cerakote finish adds humidity and corrosion resistance on top of the steel.
Green canvas Micarta scales widen at the pommel, creating a subtle hook that locks the hand in place through heavy chops. No finger choking up, no slippage on wet follow-throughs. The dangler Kydex sheath is the quiet upgrade most buyers miss. Unlike a fixed belt sheath that rides stiff against the hip, the dangler lets the machete swing freely as you walk, keeping it out of tall grass, briars, and fence wire instead of constantly catching. A beta loop locks the blade in until you actually want it out. Made in the USA.
