Benchmade Bugout Blade Steels
The Bugout now spans five steels. CPM S30V is the standard, easy to maintain with a solid working edge. CPM S90V, on the carbon fiber and several aluminum builds, holds an edge far longer and takes more work on the stones. M390 rides on aluminum builds like the DLC Battlewash 535BK-07. Grivory, Aluminum, or Carbon Fiber Bugout?
Grivory is the classic: glass filled nylon at 1.85 ounces in blue, gray, storm gray, crater blue, tan, and dark olive. CF-Elite brings it to 1.8 ounces with a carbon look. Machined aluminum builds weigh about 2.5 ounces and feel noticeably more solid in hand, from crater blue and burnt brass to Redstone Richlite and Taiga Green with a canvas Micarta inlay. The 535-3 wears true carbon fiber over S90V at 2.02 ounces.
What Is the Benchmade Bugout Vapyr?
The 534BK Vapyr, released in 2026, borrows the linerless torsion spring AXIS Lock from the Narrows, so its black 6061-T6 aluminum scales measure just 0.282 inches thick, 33 percent thinner than a standard Bugout, at 1.72 ounces. It is also the first standard Bugout in MagnaCut, with a black Cerakote blade and Taiga Green accents, and the slimmest Bugout ever made.
Bugout 535 vs Mini Bugout 533
Want the same knife smaller? The Mini Bugout 533 trims the blade to 2.82 inches and the weight to about 1.5 ounces with the same AXIS Lock and drop point. Choose the 535 if you want a full four-finger grip, and the 533 for a coin pocket or a knife that never gets in the way.
