Bastinelli knives don't look like anything else on the wall, and that's before you pick one up. Bastinelli Creations is the work of French designer Bastien Coves, whose background in Filipino martial arts and defensive tactics shapes every blade in the catalog, so the geometry follows how a knife actually moves in trained hands. His custom pieces are handmade one at a time, while the production line carries the same lines out of Maniago, Italy.
Reverse grip ergonomics, finger ring retention, and aggressive angles all trace back to cutting drills rather than concept sketches. The collaborations follow the same thread. Doug Marcaida worked on the ACE series and, with Funker Tactical, the PiKa and the Mako, Fred Perrin's concept became the Harpy, and Microtech built the Brachial on a Coves design. The dark styling gets the attention, but the edges that excel in tactical roles break down boxes, rope, and game without complaint.
The catalog splits into clear families. Folding knives run from liner lock Black Birds to titanium framelock flippers. Fixed blades cover everything from slim backup pieces to the 13 inch Separateur. The karambit line, anchored by the PiKa and Diagnostic, is one of the most credible in production. The Dragotac family carries the silhouette that made the brand's name, the Mako brings its shark tooth curve to both folders and fixed blades, and the RED series includes the Raptor seen in Luc Besson's film Lucy.
Every production Bastinelli is made in Italy, with LionSteel and Fox Knives handling the work in Maniago, the country's knife making capital. LionSteel builds the framelock folders like the R.E.D. and Safe on its IKBS ball bearing pivot.
Bastinelli doesn't chase exotic alloys. Böhler N690 carries most of the line and shrugs off weather, M390 and Elmax run the premium builds, and D2 and MagnaCut round it out, all compared in our guide to every major knife steel. Handles run G10, Micarta, titanium, carbon fiber, cord wrap, and ziricote wood, covered in our handle materials guide. Kydex sheaths and glass breaker pommels show up throughout, because these knives are meant to leave the house.
