Tanev Family Knives is exactly what the name promises: a small family-owned company from Bulgaria made up of two brothers, Yancho and Venelin Tanev, and their father Stoyan. Knifemaking has been a lifelong passion for the Tanevs, and a few years back they decided to turn that dream into their profession, building TFK into a workshop willing to work with any material and constantly developing new models that express their design sense, style, and practicality.
The current line centers on hard-use fixed blades with a distinctive signature: acid-washed CPM 3V, one of the toughest blade steels made, across the compact T7 and longer T7L, the drop-point Classic, and the deep-bellied Beluga, all wearing black G-10, burlap micarta, or natural canvas micarta. The T10 switches to satin-finished AEB-L, the razor steel prized for its fine edge, over G-10 in orange, OD green, and indigo blue, and every knife ships in a leather sheath. Where 3V's toughness and AEB-L's keenness each shine is covered in our knife steel guide.
The Tanevs build knives meant to work, sized and ground for everyday carry, camp chores, and bushcraft duty, with kitchen patterns in the family's plans as the workshop grows. Handmade in small batches by three people who share a last name and a grinder, Tanev Family Knives is a real hidden gem, but it won't be hidden for long.
