on Orders Over $99The Buck 147 Hookset features a 9-inch flexible blade in 5Cr15MoV stainless steel with titanium coating for saltwater resistance. At 0.08" thick, the blade flexes properly for following fish contours and working around bones on larger species.
The 14.45" overall length provides reach for saltwater fish like redfish, striped bass, and small tuna. The full flat grind creates clean slicing geometry from spine to edge. The titanium coating adds corrosion resistance beyond what 5Cr15MoV provides on its own - useful when dealing with saltwater and fish blood.
Glass-reinforced polypropylene handles with TPE rubber overmold maintain grip when covered in slime and scales. At 4.4 ounces, the knife stays balanced without causing hand fatigue during extended cleaning sessions. The handle's blue and gray color scheme makes it visible on a boat deck or cleaning station.
The injection-molded sheath includes a belt clip and drain hole. The open design allows rinsing without removing the blade, and the drain hole prevents water from pooling inside.
5Cr15MoV steel runs softer than Buck's standard 420HC, trading edge retention for the flexibility needed in fillet work. Touch-ups with a ceramic rod or fine steel between fish keep the edge working perfectly. The titanium coating doesn't affect sharpening - work the edge as you would any stainless fillet knife.
