on Orders Over $99The Hammer Down Forge Companion is a meticulously crafted fixed blade knife designed for everyday carry. Crafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it features Kieran Klein's refined craftsmanship and a hands-on approach to forging. The knife's blade undergoes an in-house heat treat and cryogenic process, ensuring reliable edge retention and toughness for daily use.
Blade
The Companion boasts a 3.25" Wharncliffe style blade made from AEB-L steel, known for its very fine grain structure which allows it to take an exceptionally keen edge. While not suitable for heavy-duty tasks due to its softer nature compared to more robust steels, AEB-L excels in slicing performance, making it ideal for precision work. The blade thickness of 0.144" contributes to the knife's nimble handling.
Handle
The handle is made from olive drab Canvas Micarta, known for its durability and resistance to moisture absorption. At 3.6 oz overall weight, this fixed blade feels surprisingly light in hand despite its robust construction. The canvas layers in the micarta offer a secure grip even when wet, while red chevron spacers and orange liners add visual appeal.
Sheath
The knife comes with a leather sheath that provides secure carry options for an EDC scenario. Its total length of 7.4375" ensures it remains compact enough to fit comfortably in most pockets or on-the-go setups.
AEB-L - Swedish stainless originally developed for razor blades. Composition is 0.65-0.70% carbon and 12.8% chromium. Hardness runs 59-62 HRC. Very fine grain structure, takes an exceptionally keen edge.
