San Mai Fixed Blade with Maple Handles

The Companion from Hammer Down Forge is a small, handmade fixed blade suited for everyday carry and light camp tasks. Its compact size and light weight make it an easy knife to carry daily while still offering a capable working edge.

Blade

The 3.25" clip point blade is forged from San Mai in Hitachi White steel. San Mai construction sandwiches a hard carbon steel core, here Hitachi White, between softer outer layers of steel. This gives the edge excellent sharpness and edge retention from the White steel core while the outer cladding adds flexibility and impact resistance. The clip point profile offers a fine, controllable tip for detail work.

Handle

The handle is crafted from purple-hued maple, a dense hardwood known for its stability and attractive grain pattern. At just 3oz, the whole knife carries light in the hand or on the belt.

Carry

This fixed blade ships with a black leather sheath, offering a traditional snug fit and belt carry. As a fixed blade, there is no lock mechanism - the tang and blade are one solid piece, giving it reliable strength for repeated use.
