The Heretic Koschei is Heretic's first crossbar lock knife, a manual folder designed by Anthony Marfione Jr. and unveiled with prototype customs at Blade Show Texas 2026. Built on a fully modular platform, it brings ambidextrous control and strong lockup to everyday carry, and it marks a new direction for Heretic Knives, a maker best known for OTF automatics.
The Koschei's crossbar lock runs a spring loaded bar across the blade tang for solid lockup in use, then releases with a pull from either side of the handle, so it works the same for lefties and righties. A thumb hole opener and a bearing pivot make one handed opening smooth, and closing never puts your fingers in the blade path. It is a strong choice among our folding knives for anyone who wants a lock that is easy to use with either hand.
The handle scales come off without removing the pivot, so you can swap materials or colors without disturbing the blade setup. A folded stainless backspacer and a reversible titanium clip that carries tip up on either side round out a platform Heretic designed for customization from the start.
The Koschei runs a 3.5 inch CPM MagnaCut drop point on 0.163 inch stock, about 8.1 to 8.25 inches open, at roughly 3.5 ounces in aluminum. The drop point gives a strong tip with plenty of belly for slicing, and MagnaCut pairs toughness with outstanding corrosion resistance. Our comparison of every major knife steel explains the advantage. For a Heretic folder that also comes as an automatic, see the Heretic Medusa.
Choose a stonewash blade on black aluminum, battleworn black or battleworn bronze on blizzardworn aluminum, or a bronze blade on marble carbon fiber. The USA 250 Limited Edition adds laser etched artwork for the nation's 250th anniversary. Every Koschei is made in the USA.
