The Jack Wolf Eureka brings a swell center jack pattern with genuine collector pedigree into Benjamin Belkin's modern traditional lineup. The Eureka jack was never a hardware store pattern. It has spent most of its modern life as a custom bench favorite and a limited collaboration piece, which makes a production interpretation at this level of finish worth attention.
What the Swell Center Jack Frame Does in Hand
A swell center frame tapers toward both ends and bulges through the middle, putting the widest section of the handle exactly where your fingers close around it. That geometry lets a knife ride flat in a pocket while still filling the hand once it is open. The serpentine version curves the top and bottom lines in opposition, which gives the Eureka its silhouette against a straight equal end or a barlow. Traditionally the pattern runs two blades from the same end, a long pull spear or clip main paired with a smaller pen or wharncliffe secondary.
Eureka Jack Pattern History From Bose to Great Eastern
Most collectors met this pattern through Tony Bose. The 2017 Case Bose Eureka Jack was the nineteenth knife in that collaboration, a 3.625 inch closed frame with flat taper ground 154CM spear and wharncliffe blades, milled liners, and a pinned shield. Great Eastern Cutlery carried the pattern forward on the number 92 frame, and it has held a spot on want lists ever since.
