MachineWise Serif
The MachineWise Serif is a titanium balisong built in Phoenix, Arizona, and it is the knife that shows off what the MachineWise shop can do. Grade 5 titanium chanwich handles, a 5.3" S35VN blade, and hidden adjustable weights make it a flipper you can tune to your own style. Every Serif is numbered, and many come in one-off anodized, faded, and distressed finishes like the Blurple and Gold Serifs, so the knife you pick here may not match the next one off the line. New to the brand? Start with our full MachineWise collection.
S35VN Drop Point Blade
The Serif runs a 5.3" drop point blade in S35VN with 4.5" of sharpened edge and 0.13" stock. S35VN holds an edge well and stays tough enough to shrug off the constant handling a balisong sees. The stonewash finish hides scuffs from flipping, and "live blade" on a listing means the edge is sharpened, not a trainer. The blade weighs 1.2 oz, matched closely to each handle for an even, predictable rotation. Our comparison of every major knife steel shows how S35VN stacks up.
Grade 5 Titanium Chanwich Handles
The handles use chanwich construction, a mix of channel and sandwich builds that gives you a rigid frame with clean lines. Each 5.6" titanium handle tapers toward the pivot from 0.5" in width and thickness, and hidden zen pins keep hardware off the outside. The Serif closes to 5.8", opens to 10.4", and weighs 3.96 oz with the medium weights installed.
Hidden Weights and Bushing Pivot
A hidden brass weight system lets you swap between medium (0.08 oz) and heavy (0.13 oz) inserts to change balance without changing the look. The default setup carries a light handle bias for control. The bushing pivot uses hardened stainless steel washers for smooth, consistent rotation that stays dialed in with regular use.
Built on the Maryn Platform
The Serif shares the Maryn platform with the MachineWise Opus V2, so blades swap across Opus, SlifT, Prysma, and Maryn handles. That is why you will see Serif blades on Opus handles, like the Raw Titanium Opus V2.
