The Opus V2 is MachineWise designer Deylan's personal rework of the original Opus — not an update, a full rebuild. He pulled from across the MachineWise lineup, kept what worked, cut what didn't, and rebuilt the knife from the ground up for flippers who want more out of a balisong than smooth action and good looks. The result is a knife with more geometry, more personality, and more room to express the kind of flipping MachineWise has been refining since their earliest balisong work. Like everything out of Phoenix, it's numbered, documented, and hand-finished in-house.
The Opus V2 uses chanwich handle construction — a channel-sandwich hybrid that combines structural rigidity with the design flexibility of a sandwiched build. Handles are Grade 5 titanium, 5.6" in length, tapering toward the pivot in both width and thickness from a 0.5" starting point. Individual handle weight without brass inserts comes in at 1.2 oz per scale. Hidden zen pins replace exposed hardware for a cleaner silhouette, and the overall package opens to 10.4" from a 5.8" closed length — a full-sized flipper with proportions dialed for performance.
The Opus V2 ships with a hidden interchangeable brass weight system, configurable between medium (0.08 oz) and heavy (0.13 oz) brass inserts. With medium weights installed, the knife weighs 3.96 oz with a light handle bias — a balance point that favors control without sacrificing momentum. Swapping weights adjusts both balance and feel without any visible hardware changes, keeping the exterior clean regardless of configuration.
The blade runs 5.3" in total length with 4.5" of sharpened edge, and weighs 1.2 oz — matched closely to the individual handle weight for a balanced flip. Blade material is steel-verified via the included COA and QC card, consistent with MachineWise's practice of Rockwell-testing every blade before assembly. The Opus V2 is built on the Maryn Platform, meaning handles and blades are cross-compatible with Opus, SlifT, Prysma, and Maryn — a modular system that expands what you can do with one knife over time.
The Opus V2 runs on a bushing pivot with hardened stainless steel washers. MachineWise's balisong pivot approach prioritizes tuned, consistent action over raw speed — the kind of flip that holds up across extended sessions and doesn't require frequent adjustment.
Each Opus V2 ships with configurable weights, a QC card/COA, and MachineWise's signature box. It's a numbered knife from a small-batch maker whose balisong work established the foundation for everything else in the lineup. Availability on individual finish variants is limited — specific colorways and anodization runs don't restock predictably.
