The MachineWise Sonora is an integral titanium button lock flipper built by a five-person team in Phoenix, Arizona. It's MachineWise's first folding knife — designed to carry the precision of their balisong work into an everyday carry format. Every Sonora is CNC machined, serialized, and individually Rockwell tested before it ships. Each knife includes a QC card documenting the blade's measured hardness and a COA confirming steel composition. This is a small-batch American-made EDC knife, not a production-line folder.
The Sonora runs a 3.35" drop point blade in S90V, a high-vanadium powder metallurgy steel valued for exceptional edge retention. The sharpened edge arc measures 3.5", ground to 0.011–0.015" behind the belly for a thin, capable cutting edge. Every blade is Rockwell tested after heat treat, and that measured value goes on the QC card, not a spec sheet estimate. Blade stock holds at 0.125", consistent with the Mojave's geometry.
Where the Mojave uses a two-slab sandwich construction, the Sonora is integral — the entire frame is CNC machined from a single piece of Grade 5 titanium, requiring only two screws plus the pivot assembly. That construction eliminates assembly points and reflects MachineWise's machining capability directly in the handle geometry. Thickness runs 0.50" at the bolster, stepping down to 0.40" at the body, with 0.56" at the clip. At 3.5 oz for a full titanium integral, it carries well for everyday use. The deep carry pocket clip is reversible for left- or right-hand carry.
The Sonora uses a bushing pivot with hardened stainless steel washers, paired deliberately with the button lock mechanism for secure, repeatable lockup and quick one-handed deployment via the flipper tab. Closed length is 4.4" with an open length of 7.95", making it one of the more compact packages in the MachineWise lineup while still running a full 3.35" blade.
Each Sonora ships in MachineWise's signature biscuit tin box with a T15 driver, a sample of Carbon Honey Thin lubricant, a QC card/COA, and a maintenance card. MachineWise backs every Sonora with an unconditional lifetime warranty. All design, machining, and assembly happen in-house in Phoenix — this is a fully American-made folding knife from raw titanium to finished product.
The Sonora is a numbered production knife from a small maker. Specific finish variants don't restock on a predictable schedule — when a configuration sells through, it's typically gone.
