Reate Bushido
The Reate Bushido is a kwaiken-inspired front flipper and one of the lightest knives Reate builds. Named for the samurai code, it wears its Japanese influence in the blade: a 2.76 inch trailing point in M390 with a continuously curving edge, an upswept tip, and a full length swedge over a nearly full height flat grind. It opens from a recessed tab on the blade spine rather than a rear flipper tab, giving the closed knife a clean uninterrupted profile that suits its gentleman carry intent, and at 2.71 ounces it disappears in a pocket.
Front Flipper Deployment on the Reate Bushido
Front flippers ask more of the maker than rear tabs do. The detent has to be tuned precisely enough that a short push against a small surface overcomes it cleanly, and the ceramic bearing race has to be smooth enough that the blade completes its arc without a stall. Reate's machining tolerances are the reason this mechanism works here, and front flipper enthusiasts routinely rank the Bushido's action among the best in production. Reate Bushido vs the Tribute Front Flipper
The Tribute is the other front flipper in Reate's catalog, and the two split the dress carry lane cleanly. The Bushido is the minimalist, a liner lock in satin M390 at under three ounces that rides like a gentleman's knife. The Tribute goes formal, stacking zirconium or mokuti bolsters and a Damasteel option on top of the same front flipper discipline.
