The Reate VK-FROK is the middle knife of the Vulpex line, the VK series Reate builds with Vulpex Knives and designer Steven Kempa: a 3.25-inch Elmax blade over titanium at 4.4 ounces. It splits the difference between its two stablemates in size, and it carries the collaboration's most distinctive finish work.
The blade runs Bohler Elmax on 0.135-inch stock, the balanced powder stainless the whole VK line standardizes on, holding a working edge through daily use without demanding much in return. Lockup is a titanium frame lock per DLT's own sheet, and the tip-up clip is right-hand configured on this model, at 7.75 inches overall on a 4.75-inch handle.
The five builds give the FROK the widest finish spread in the Vulpex line. The standout pairs a hand rubbed acid wash blade with wire wheel textured titanium and purple accents, a combination nothing else in the catalog wears. Around it sit a hand rubbed blade over crystalized and bead blasted two-tone titanium, a satin black DLC blade on black PVD titanium with bead blasted zirconium hardware, a dark frosted satin blade over dark bead blasted frames, and a full darkwashed build.
The trio now ladders cleanly. The Reate VK-ANUB is the light carry at 3.15 inches and 3.35 ounces, all dark and minimal, and the Reate VK-CLU is the 3.5-inch, 5.08-ounce flagship on a liner lock with the zirconium dress hardware. The FROK holds the center at 3.25 inches and 4.4 ounces on a frame lock, with the finish experiments: if you want the Kempa design language in the size most people actually carry, this is the middle bet that makes the most sense.
