The Spartan Harsey Folder, or SHF, won American-Made Knife of the Year at Blade Show 2016. It was Spartan Blades' first folding knife with William W. Harsey Jr., the designer of the Yarborough knife given to Special Forces Qualification Course graduates. The partnership was already proven: the Spartan Harsey Model I took Collaboration of the Year in 2010. Every part except the blade, barrel pivot, and stop pin is 6AL-4V titanium, and it is built in North Carolina.
The full-size SHF carries a 4 inch drop point on 0.154 inch stock and runs about 8.8 inches open. It is a titanium framelock with an internal lock bar stabilizer that keeps the bar from over-traveling. The blade swings on phosphor bronze bushings rather than bearings, and dual titanium thumb lugs plus a reversible clip make it fully ambidextrous. The handle has the hump above the thumb lug and the flared base that Spartan calls the Harsey Look.
The SHF 3.25 scales the design down to a 3.25 inch drop point on 0.125 inch stock. It runs 7.125 inches open and 3.875 inches closed at about 3 ounces. It keeps the all titanium framelock, the dual thumb lugs, and the reversible clip, in a size that disappears in a dress pocket. Satin titanium builds come with blue or bronze hardware.
Current SHFs run CPM MagnaCut in stonewash or black, and some carry Chad Nichols Damascus. Earlier runs used S35VN and S45VN, and our knife steel guide compares all three. The SHF is also Spartan's canvas for special edition handle art. Our shelf holds Warthog, Plague Doctor, Join or Die, Kilroy, Templar, and Ronin Tactics Long Gunner editions.
The Talos is Harsey's CTS-XHP folding knife in Spartan's Field Grade line, and the collection also carries the Harsey T4, a 5 inch Elmax crossbar lock folder built in the Czech Republic. For fixed blades, the Clandestina was Overall Knife of the Year in 2024, and the Harsey fixed blades cover the Difensa and Dagger. Upgrade your SHF's carry with a Lynch Northwest Harsey clip.
