Spyderco Bodacious
The Spyderco Bodacious answers a question the catalog had been circling for years, which is what a Shaman looks like with flat scales and thinner stock. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser and named after the bucking bull that threw nearly every rider who drew him, the C263 is a full size working folder built in Golden, Colorado alongside the rest of the American made lineup.
Compression Lock and Full Flat Grind Construction
The Bodacious runs a leaf shaped blade in 0.125 inch stock with a full flat grind carrying the bevel from spine to edge, so it slices well above its weight in cardboard, rope, and packaging. Skeletonized stainless liners nest into the scales and do double duty as the structural foundation of the Compression Lock, which seats the lock leaf on the spine side and keeps your fingers clear of the blade path on close. Bodacious vs Shaman and Where the C263 Sits
Owners carrying both tend to call the Bodacious the Goldilocks knife between the Para Military 2, the Military 2, and the Shaman. It lands near PM2 size at 4.68 inches closed with a 3.63 inch blade, but the cutting edge stretches toward Military territory and the stock runs thicker than a PM2 without reaching Shaman heft. CPM SPY27, S30V, and S90V Blade Steel
Runs have covered S30V in satin and black DLC, CPM SPY27 in cobalt blue G-10, and an S90V sprint run on peel ply carbon fiber. SPY27 is Spyderco's proprietary cobalt bearing particle steel, splitting the difference between corrosion resistance and edge holding, while S90V pushes wear resistance for anyone who would rather sharpen twice a year than twice a month. G-10 Scales and Pocket Clip Setup
Flat, uncontoured G-10 keeps the Bodacious slim in pocket and makes it one of the easier Spyderco frames to modify, which is why the aftermarket took to it so quickly. The broad based clip mounts tip up on either side, and Lynch Northwest builds a deep carry replacement that fits the frame.
