Spyderco Bodacious
The Spyderco Bodacious is what happens when you take the Shaman and delete the 50/50 choil. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser and named for the legendary bucking bull, the C263 shipped in 2024 as a full size working folder built in Golden, Colorado. It runs a 3.63 inch leaf shaped blade with a full flat grind on .125 inch stock, 3.53 inches of cutting edge, 8.27 inches open and 4.68 closed. Skeletonized stainless liners inside the scales anchor the Compression Lock: press the bar on the spine and the blade folds closed one handed while your fingers stay clear of the edge. It sits among the Spyderco Compression Lock flagships as the pure slicer of the group.
What Makes the Bodacious Different?
No choil. The edge now starts right at your index finger knuckle, which buys roughly 3/8 inch more cutting edge than a Shaman of nearly the same size. The scales are flat and thinner, with a light texture instead of aggressive peel ply, so it rides flatter in the pocket. Owners describe it as the bigger, choil-less Native they had been asking for. Spyderco Bodacious vs Shaman
The Shaman keeps the choil, a saber grind with a swedge, and 3D contoured G10 that fills a hard grip for long, controlled work, and it carries the heavier blade. Bodacious Blade Steels and SpyderEdge Models
The standard build runs CPM S30V on black G10, in satin or black DLC and with either a plain edge or a fully serrated SpyderEdge for rope and webbing. CPM SPY27, the cobalt bearing steel Crucible makes exclusively for Spyderco, comes on cobalt blue G10. Bodacious Scales and Pocket Clip Upgrades
Flat, uncontoured G10 makes the Bodacious one of the easiest Spyderco frames to chamfer or rescale, which is why modders took to it quickly. The broad based factory clip reverses for tip up carry on either side, and Lynch Northwest machines a titanium replacement cut for the Bodacious and Shaman in bronze anodized, stonewashed, and black Cerakote.
