Victorinox SwissChamp 33-Function Multi-Tool

Victorinox introduced the SwissChamp in 1985 as the flagship 91mm model, incorporating nearly every tool available in the standard size. The SwissChamp offers 33 functions across eight tool layers, measuring 91mm long when closed and about 33mm thick. Core implements include large and small blades, pliers with wire cutters, scissors, wood saw, metal file with nail file and nail cleaner, fish scaler with hook disgorger and ruler, magnifying glass, Phillips screwdriver, combination can opener with small flathead screwdriver, bottle opener with large flathead screwdriver and wire stripper, reamer with sewing eye, corkscrew, multipurpose hook, tweezers, toothpick, ballpoint pen, straight pin, and keyring. The scales use Cellidor polymer construction in red, black, translucent sapphire, and other color variations. Total weight is about 185 grams. Assembly uses 64 individual components secured with brass rivets and flanged bushings.

Huntsman and Hiker 91mm Four-Layer Configuration

The Huntsman is Victorinox's most popular four-layer 91mm model with 15 functions. This configuration adds a wood saw and scissors to the Spartan base, providing comprehensive cutting capability for outdoor use. Tools include large and small blades, combination can opener with 3mm screwdriver, bottle opener with 6mm screwdriver and wire stripper, reamer with sewing awl, corkscrew, scissors, wood saw, multipurpose hook, tweezers, toothpick, and keyring. The knife weighs about 97 grams and measures 91mm closed. The Hiker uses the same tool configuration as the Huntsman and is the same model with different regional naming. The wood saw has aggressive teeth for cutting branches and also works on rope, cardboard, and other fibrous materials. Both models use classic Cellidor scale construction with multiple color options.

Tinker and Spartan Two-Layer Base Models

The Tinker modifies the Spartan configuration by replacing the corkscrew with a Phillips screwdriver positioned on the knife's spine. This 12-function setup includes large and small blades, a combination can opener with a 3mm screwdriver, a bottle opener with a 6mm screwdriver and wire stripper, a reamer with a sewing awl, a Phillips screwdriver, tweezers, a toothpick, and a keyring. The spine-mounted Phillips provides T-handle orientation for improved torque application on cross-head fasteners. The Spartan maintains the traditional Officer's Knife configuration with a corkscrew and represents the base model upon which most 91mm variants are built. Both models use a two-layer construction measuring approximately 14mm thick and weighing around 59 grams. The Tinker finds favor among users who prioritize screw-driving tasks over wine bottle opening, while the Spartan appeals to traditional knife users and those who value the corkscrew's utility for knot loosening and tool storage.

Climber and Camper Three-Layer Configurations

The Climber adds scissors to the Spartan base, creating a 14-function three-layer knife measuring approximately 18mm thick and weighing 82 grams. This configuration includes large and small blades, a combination can opener with a 3mm screwdriver, a bottle opener with a 6mm screwdriver and wire stripper, a reamer with a sewing awl, a corkscrew, scissors, a multipurpose hook, tweezers, a toothpick, and a keyring. The Camper substitutes a wood saw for the scissors, providing 13 functions optimized for outdoor use. Both models maintain the 91mm closed length and use Cellidor scales in various colors, including red, black, ruby, sapphire, camouflage patterns, and translucent options. The scissors use rivet construction on current production and feature precision-ground blades with spring action. The Climber serves as an everyday carry option, balancing portability with a wide range of tools, while the Camper targets camping and outdoor activities that require wood-processing capability.

91mm Construction and Manufacturing Standards

Victorinox manufactures all 91mm Swiss Army Knives in Switzerland using martensitic stainless alloy blades with 15% chromium, 0.60% silicon, 0.52% carbon, 0.50% molybdenum, and 0.45% manganese. Blades are sharpened at a 15-degree angle per side, creating a 30-degree V-edge. Brass rivets and flanged bushings secure all components through the handle scales. Aluminum alloy separators divide tool layers, reducing weight compared to earlier nickel-silver construction. Each tool uses slip-joint spring tensioning to maintain position when opened or closed. Phosphor bronze washers allow smooth pivot action on larger tools. Cellidor scales have bi-directional texturing for grip and hold removable tweezers, toothpick, and ballpoint pen in dedicated slots. All models include a lifetime warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
