The White River Firecraft FC-PKO takes the traditional Nordic puukko and adds modern fire-making features. Designed by Jason Tietz and made in the USA by White River Knife & Tool in Fremont, Michigan, it pairs a classic Scandi grind with two ways to start a fire, making it one of the most complete woodcraft knives in the Firecraft series.
The FC-PKO carries a 3.7 inch blade with a traditional Scandi grind on .125 inch stock, 8.1 inches overall. That single wide bevel bites aggressively into wood for feathering, notching, and carving, and owners also use it to field dress, skin, and gather mushrooms. It is a true bushcraft knife sized for fine work.
A notch atop the spine is built for striking a ferro rod, and one is included with every knife, so you can throw sparks without touching your edge. The handle also carries a polished stainless steel divot that works as a bearing block for a fire bow, giving you a second way to make fire when the rod is spent or you want to practice friction fire.
The blade is CPM S35VN hardened to 59 to 60 Rc, a stainless with the toughness for woodwork and the edge retention to keep carving. Tough Micarta scales give a sure grip in wet weather, and the whole knife weighs 4.6 ounces. Our guides to knife steels and handle materials cover both in depth.
