The White River Trailhead Trapper is White River's first folder, a slipjoint more than a year in the making. It is a Smith & Sons design built entirely in the USA by White River Knife & Tool in Fremont, Michigan, and it carries custom-level details into a production knife that works as hard as it looks.
The Trailhead Trapper walks and talks with a satisfying snap into the closed, half-stop, and open positions. Each knife is hand finished so the blade sits centered and the backspring stays level in all three, the spine is hand profiled, and the liners are relieved to cut drag and keep the tang from scratching, touches usually found only on custom slipjoints.
The 3.1 inch clip point is wire EDM cut from CPM S35VN, hardened to 59 to 60 Rc, and ground from .100 inch stock. S35VN brings strong edge retention and toughness to a pocket knife meant for daily use. Our comparison of every major knife steel shows how it stacks up against the MagnaCut in White River's fixed blades.
It closes to 4.2 inches, opens to 7.5, and weighs just 2.5 ounces, easy to drop in a pocket and forget. We carry it in Carbon Fiber Burl, Maple and Black Richlite, OD Green Canvas Micarta, and Natural Burlap Micarta. Our guide to knife handle materials covers how each wears over time.
The Trailhead Trapper updates one of the classic American pocket knife patterns, covered in our guide to traditional pocket knife patterns, with modern steel and precision machining. It is covered by White River's lifetime guarantee with free sharpening. Browse more slipjoints in our traditional knives collection, or pair it with a White River fixed blade like the Brave.
