Buck Knives has been manufacturing folders and fixed blades since Hoyt Buck started tempering steel in 1902. Four generations later, CJ Buck runs the same family-owned operation from the same facility where they've built knives since 1964. The 110 Folding Hunter, 112 Ranger, 119 Special, and 102 Woodsman remain in continuous domestic production—unchanged in fundamental design, still assembled by the same workforce that's been building them for decades.
The 110 Folding Hunter established the template for the modern lockback when it launched in 1964. A 3.75" clip point blade, brass bolsters, and a back lock mechanism that became an industry standard. The 112 Ranger followed as the compact variant at 3" blade length. Both models anchor Buck's identity six decades later. The 119 Special predates both—a 6" clip point fixed blade that's served as a benchmark hunting knife since 1961.
Buck's proprietary heat treatment sets their 420HC apart from commodity versions of the same alloy. Cryogenic processing and precise tempering produce a working hardness of 58-60 HRC—a steel that prioritizes toughness and field maintenance over maximum edge retention. The Heritage Series elevates the classics with Dymalux Cocobolo handles and polished brass fittings for collectors and presentation pieces.
The modern lineup extends well beyond traditional patterns. The Range Elite series represents Buck's flagship folder platform—CPM-MagnaCut blades on ball bearings with frame locks and aluminum handles. The Sprint Pro runs S45VN with canvas micarta or marbled carbon fiber for everyday carry. The Paradigm delivers IKBS bearing action with S35VN and a button lock. The Deploy and Mini Deploy provide push-button, side-opening deployment in CPM-S35VN and CPM-154.
Hunting knives span the Alpha, Pursuit, and PakLite 2.0 series. The Alpha platform ships in three tiers: Select (420HC with GFN handles), Pro (S45VN with Dymalux or Richlite), and Elite (CPM-MagnaCut with premium handle materials). The Alpha Hunter, Guide, and Scout cover field dressing from deer to elk with purpose-built blade profiles. PakLite 2.0 delivers skeletonized fixed blades for weight-conscious hunters who need to pack in and pack out.
Traditional pocket knives carry forward patterns that predate Buck's founding. The Stockman, Cadet, Canoe, and Trapper run USA-made 420HC with nickel silver bolsters—multi-blade slipjoints built the same way they've been built for generations.
The Hookset and Silver Creek series handle fish processing with titanium-coated stainless blades in 6" and 9" configurations. The EdgeTek sharpening system maintains everything from 420HC folders to MagnaCut fixed blades with diamond surfaces that cut through hardened steels.
Buck backs every knife with the Forever Warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship for life.
