The Hinderer Half Track is one of the smallest folders in the Rick Hinderer knives lineup, and it is built like its namesake: the World War II half-track, part truck and part tank. A 2.75 inch blade on the same 0.165 inch stock as the XM-18 3.5 makes it a compact that works like a much bigger knife, made in the USA.
The Half Track measures 6.625 inches open and 3.875 inches closed at about 4.4 ounces. That short package still gives a full hand grip thanks to a multilevel handle Rick shaped for comfort and control, with spine jimping to lock your thumb in place. If you need more blade and a built in disassembly tool, step up to the Hinderer Full Track, its upsized sibling.
The current Half Track runs a slicer grind in CPM MagnaCut, pairing a thin, efficient edge with a stout spine for the most cutting ability a small folder can offer. MagnaCut adds high toughness and outstanding corrosion resistance, and our comparison of every major knife steel shows why it leads. Earlier runs came in S35VN and 20CV across clip point, tanto, and wharncliffe grinds.
The Half Track uses a two part handle: a titanium frame lock base with a G-10 overlay on the show side. It opens by flipper on the Tri-Way Pivot, shipped on ball bearings with phosphor bronze and Teflon washers included, and locks up on a titanium frame lock with the Lockbar Stabilizer. The titanium clip carries tip up, right hand.
Few Hinderers take as many handle options. Our Hinderer Half Track hardware carries textured and smooth scales in G-10, canvas and burgundy Micarta, carbon fiber, and anodized titanium, plus complete hardware kits in brass, copper, and anodized finishes. The titanium handle screws are shared with the Jurassic and MP-1, and the full range of Hinderer parts and accessories covers the rest.
