The Hinderer Investigator is the most popular pen Rick Hinderer makes, and the hardest to keep on our shelves. Rick designed it after customers asked for a smaller version of the Extreme Duty, naming it for the detectives and officers who wanted a light, easy carry pen with the same toughness. It is the compact heart of the Hinderer pens, TacTools, and kubatons collection, made in Shreve, Ohio alongside Rick Hinderer knives.
The Investigator was built as small as a full size refill allows: 4.25 inches long and 3/8 inch in diameter, so it rides in a shirt pocket, jeans, or a notebook loop without notice. Deep traction grooves at each end carry over from the larger Hinderer Extreme Duty, giving a firm hold whether you're writing or need the pen as a close quarters tool, and coarse threads hold the caps on under hard strikes.
Few pens come in as many builds. Anodized aluminum is the lightest, in colors from matte pink to Type II gold. Titanium adds strength and anodized or flamed finishes, brass and copper build a warm patina, and stainless runs from working finish to black DLC. Patterns include the classic fluted body and the spiral, and Rick's Battlefield Pickup finish makes a pen look like an artifact pulled from a military history display.
The Warthog is a design Rick Hinderer created with us. Instead of laser engraving, each pen is machined, anodized, and then machined again to cut the Warthog pattern deep into the body, in aluminum, titanium, brass, copper, and stainless. Find it with the rest of our DLT Trading exclusives, and expect it to sell through fast when it lands.
Every Investigator takes a bold point Fisher Space Pen pressurized refill, SPR4B, that writes upside down, in the cold, and in the wet. The modular design swaps the rounded end for bullet, flat, or warhead tips, and our Hinderer pen accessories carry tips, clips, O-ring sets, and refills.
