Rick Hinderer doesn't just make knives. His hard use writing tools are machined, hand finished, and assembled in the same Shreve, Ohio shop that builds Rick Hinderer knives. This collection covers his tactical pens, kubatons, and pocket tools, while our full range of EDC pens covers makers across the industry.
Rick's first design was the Modular Baton, a threaded kubaton with interchangeable ends that included a pen module, and it helped launch the tactical pen as a category. The full size Hinderer Extreme Duty pen followed as an overbuilt writer with deep grip grooves and a swappable top end. When customers asked for something smaller, Rick designed the Hinderer Investigator pen, named for the detectives and officers who wanted a lighter pen with the same strength.
The Investigator runs 4.25 inches and was built as small as its refill allows, so it rides in a shirt or jeans pocket. The Extreme Duty measures just under 5.5 inches for a fuller grip that doubles as a control tool. Both come in titanium, anodized aluminum, brass, copper, and stainless steel, with fluted and spiral patterns and anodized colors from battle black to stars and stripes.
Every Hinderer pen takes a full size Fisher Space Pen pressurized refill, which writes upside down, in the cold, and in the wet. Deep cut threads hold the caps on, and the modular ends swap between bullet, flat, and warhead styles in 17-4 stainless or titanium. Replacement tips, pocket clips, and refills live in our Hinderer pen accessories.
For a dedicated striking tool, our Hinderer kubatons range from the keychain LK-1 in titanium, brass, and copper to the Modular Kubaton deluxe sets with swappable attachments. The Hinderer HS TacTool packs a mini pry bar, bottle opener, and quarter inch bit holder into a pocket clip that also works as a money clip.
