The Hinderer Extreme Duty is the heavyweight of Rick Hinderer's pens and the first full size writer he built after his original Modular Baton. At just under 5.5 inches long and about half an inch thick, it fills the hand like a control tool, and it anchors the Hinderer pens, TacTools, and kubatons collection, made in Shreve, Ohio alongside Rick Hinderer knives.
The Extreme Duty is the bigger, overbuilt pen, while the Hinderer Investigator trims down to 4.25 inches and 3/8 inch for easier pocket carry. The extra length and diameter give the Extreme Duty far more reach and presence in the hand, which is why it doubles as a kubaton for emergency self defense. Just make sure your pocket has room for it.
Coarse, tall threads hold the cap on through hard strikes, and deep traction grooves give a sure grip whether you are writing or holding it as a control device. The writing end is part of the body for strength, while the top end swaps to Hinderer's modular 17-4 stainless attachments so you can set up the pen for how you carry. Each one is CNC machined, hand finished, and assembled in Rick's shop.
Anodized aluminum keeps it light, in gloss and matte colors from emerald green to burnt orange. Brass and copper add heft and a patina that grows with use, titanium brings strength in anodized blue, and stainless runs bare, stonewashed black DLC, or in Rick's Battlefield Pickup finish. The fluted body is the classic, with a spiral pattern for a different look and feel.
Every Extreme Duty takes a full size bold Fisher Space Pen pressurized refill that writes upside down and through the elements, far more ink than the mini refill in the pen module of our Hinderer kubatons. Spare clips and refills live in our Hinderer pen accessories, and our full range of EDC pens covers other makers.
