Hogue Knives launched in 2010 as the cutlery division of Hogue Inc., a family-owned American firearms accessory company founded by Guy Hogue in 1968. The knife operation runs under Aaron Hogue and Jim Bruhns, master tool maker and President of Hogue Tool and Machine, who partnered with custom knifemaker Allen Elishewitz to launch the original Extreme Series in 2010. Every Hogue knife is made in the USA using CNC machining and the same precision manufacturing standards developed across decades of firearms industry work. The catalog covers everyday carry folders, tactical fixed blades, button-lock and OTF autos, hunting and fillet knives from designer Scott Bruhns, a tactical tomahawk, and licensed SIG Sauer and Heckler & Koch partnership knives. Hogue backs every knife with a limited lifetime warranty and free factory sharpening to the original owner.
The ABLE Lock, short for Ambidextrous Bar Lock Enhanced, is Hogue's proprietary crossbar lock system featured on the Deka, Mysto, X5, and select SIG K320 folders. It uses a spring-loaded hardened steel bar that wedges into the blade tang at lockup, paired with Wolff wireform springs for long-term durability. Operation is fully ambidextrous and keeps fingers out of the blade path during closing. Beyond the ABLE Lock, the lineup includes button-lock folders like the Ballista-II and SIG Counterstrike, double-action OTF models in the Counterstrike and Exploit lines, the Extrak XL with M4 steel, and traditional liner locks on the original EX-01 through EX-04 Extreme Series patterns designed by Elishewitz.
Hogue runs a deliberate steel program matched to each line. CPM MagnaCut anchors the Mysto, Ballista, X5, and current SIG K365A folders, delivering edge retention and corrosion resistance at 60 to 64 HRC. The original Deka platform ran CPM-20CV before transitioning to MagnaCut, and SIG K320 models continue with PVD-coated S30V. Tactical fixed blades like the EX-F01 use A2 tool steel under black or tan Cerakote, the EX-T01 tomahawk runs S7 shock-resistant steel, and the Extrak series uses M4 high-speed steel. The HK First Response Tool runs S45VN, and the Expel folding scalpel pairs replaceable 440C blades with a 416 stainless frame. Each blade runs through cryogenic heat treatment to optimize hardness and edge stability.
Hogue's fixed blade catalog covers tactical, hunting, and fish processing applications. The EX-F01 anchors the tactical line with a 5.5-inch A2 drop point and G-Mascus G-10 scales. The EX-T01 tomahawk pairs S7 tool steel with G-10 handles for hard-use breaching and field work, including a SIG Sauer Tactical co-branded variant with a SIG medallion. The Extrak and Extrak XL deliver lightweight M4 or MagnaCut field knives in clip point geometry with G-10 peel ply scales. The Flex series, designed by Scott Bruhns, covers hunting and processing duty with the Bone Flex 7.125-inch boning knife, the Fillet Flex, and Mysto-platform hunting variants in MagnaCut steel and Richlite handles.
Hogue manufactures the official SIG Sauer knife line and the Heckler & Koch branded knives under license at the same American facility. The SIG K320 and K365A folders mirror the M17, M18, AXG Scorpion, and P365 pistol platforms with PVD-finished S30V or MagnaCut blades, polymer or aluminum frames, and ABLE Lock mechanisms. The SIG Counterstrike auto uses a button lock with PVD-coated drop point and tanto blade options. The HK lineup includes the First Response Tool with partially serrated S45VN blades and red and black ChromaCut G-10 frames. Both partnerships carry the same Elishewitz design language and CNC manufacturing as the Hogue-branded catalog.
