The Leatherman Rebar is the modern reinterpretation of Tim Leatherman's original 1983 PST and the anchor of Leatherman's Heritage line. The PST established the pliers-based multi-tool as its own category, and the Rebar keeps that same box-body, sloped-neck architecture while adding locking tools, replaceable wire cutters, and modern Cerakote finishes. The story of the tool it descends from is told in how Tim Leatherman invented the American multi-tool, and the Rebar sits within the full Leatherman lineup.
The Rebar packs 17 tools into a 4 inch closed frame weighing 6.7 ounces: needlenose and regular pliers, replaceable wire and hard-wire cutters, an electrical crimper, wire stripper, two 420HC blades, saw, wood and metal file, awl with thread loop, can and bottle openers, an 8 inch ruler, and Phillips, large, and small screwdrivers. Every tool except the plier head locks when deployed. It was the first 4 inch Leatherman to carry replaceable wire cutters, a feature that had been reserved for the larger Super Tool 300.
Two 420HC stainless blades do the cutting: a 2.9 inch plain edge drop point and a fully serrated secondary blade for rope and fibrous material. 420HC sharpens easily and holds up to the range of work this tool sees. The replaceable wire cutters are 154CM for a harder edge and longer life against wire, nails, and mixed materials, and when they wear they swap out instead of retiring the tool. Our comparison of every major knife steel covers both.
The Rebar comes in hand-finished Cerakote in Mossy Slate, Heathered Cranberry, Burnt Sienna, and Coyote Tan, along with the classic stainless steel finish. Cerakote adds ceramic-grade resistance to wear, corrosion, and abrasion without changing the tool's footprint.
The Rebar suits tradesmen, DIY users, hunters, and anyone who wants much of the feature set of a Wave Plus in a simpler, scissor-free heritage frame. The sheath isn't included, so pair it with a nylon, leather, or Molle option from Leatherman Sheaths and Accessories, or compare it with every other tool in our multi-tools collection.
