19 Tools Built for the Backcountry

At 4.5 inches closed and 7.5 ounces, the Signal is compact for the feature set it carries. The 19-tool count includes needlenose and regular pliers, replaceable wire and hard-wire cutters, a 420HC combo blade with straight and serrated sections, saw, awl, large bit driver, can opener, bottle opener, and a 1/4-inch hex driver. Every feature except the plier head locks independently, and every tool is one-hand operable. The removable pocket clip and integrated carabiner give you two carry options before you even reach for the sheath.

Ferro Rod, Whistle, and Hammer Surface

The Signal was the first compact multi-tool with a built-in ferrocerium rod, and it remains the defining feature. The ferro rod slides out from a dedicated gate in the handle and throws a hot shower of sparks against the striker on the back of the saw. The emergency whistle is molded into the handle end for signaling or pet recall at camp. A flat hammer surface on the handle takes tent stakes without damaging the plier body. These three features are what push the Signal past general-purpose multi-tool territory and into dedicated outdoor gear.

420HC Combo Blade and Built-In Sharpener

The Signal runs a 2.73-inch 420HC stainless combo blade with a straight primary edge and serrated secondary section for rope, webbing, and tough fibrous materials. 420HC sharpens easily, and the Signal carries a shaped diamond-coated sharpener built right into the handle for field touch-ups. It's a self-contained blade maintenance system that fits the survival-first design philosophy.
