The Pro-Tech Newport is the thin, light gent's auto in the Pro-Tech lineup: a 3 inch S35VN blade in a side opening automatic that weighs about 2.1 ounces. It has two Blade Show wins behind it. The Newport was Investor/Collector Knife of the Year in 2013, and the Newport Ultimate Diamond Elite took the same award in 2018. Both runs are part of the collector streak covered in our Pro-Tech brand history.
The Newport carries a 3 inch spear point ground from 0.10 inch stock. It measures about 7.1 inches open and 4.1 inches closed, with a handle about 0.4 inch thick. Pro-Tech built it as a larger version of its Sprint, giving bigger hands more to hold without adding real weight. The clip is a deep carry, set for right hand tip up carry.
CPM S35VN at around 60 HRC is a fine match for thin stock. It takes a keen edge, holds it well, and sharpens without a fight, and our knife steel guide shows where it sits among modern stainless steels. The coil spring fires the blade off a single button, and the same button releases the lock to close.
The standard Newport wears smooth black anodized aluminum. The Wave builds add a machined 3D wave pattern in black or grey, and one dress build sets an ivory Micarta inlay into the handle. Blades run stonewash, black DLC, and smoky grey, and several builds carry a mother of pearl or pearl button.
All three are slim Pro-Tech autos around 3 inches. The Godson gives you stiletto styling in 154CM at about 3.2 ounces. Dmitry Sinkevich's Oligarch gives you a 3.25 inch MagnaCut sheepsfoot. The Newport is the lightest and plainest of the three, built to vanish under a dress shirt.
