Spartan Blades Damysus
The Spartan Blades Damysus is a combat utility fixed blade designed by Spartan co-founder Curtis Iovito. KA-BAR builds it in Olean, New York, as part of the Pro Grade line made through Pineland Cutlery, the Spartan and KA-BAR partnership. The name comes from Greek myth: Damysus was the fastest of the giants. In the Spartan Blades lineup, it is a heavy all-rounder among the 1095 knives.
Spartan Blades Damysus Specs
The Damysus carries a 5.5 inch flat ground drop point on 3/16 inch stock with full tang construction. It runs 10.75 inches overall and weighs about 9 ounces. The straight edge and strong point are the whole idea. Spartan built it for tip strength, so the point holds up when you work it hard.
1095 Cro-Van Blade Steel
KA-BAR runs German-origin 1095 Cro-Van at 56 to 58 HRC. The chromium and vanadium additions improve wear resistance over plain 1095 while keeping the toughness that makes carbon steel forgiving under impact. It sharpens fast in the field. It is not stainless, so the black powder coat helps, but the edge needs to be kept dry and oiled. Our knife steel guide compares it with stainless options.
Micarta Handle and Retention Sheath
The CE canvas Micarta scales come in black or green and grip securely wet or dry. The knife rides in an injection molded sheath with an active retention thumb lever, the same lock-in idea as the Alala's sheath. The blade stays put until you press the lever, which matters on a knife this heavy.
