The Spartan Blades Phrike is a compact self-defense and utility fixed blade designed by co-founders Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey, with input from U.S. Special Operations units and other government agencies. It is built in the US by Spartan Blades to carry every day without bulk. Phrike was the Greek goddess of horror, and in ancient Greek the word means tremor or shivering.
The Phrike carries a 4.25 inch swedged drop point on 3/16 inch stock, with a full tang. It runs 8.5 inches overall and weighs about 3.9 ounces. A filed thumb ramp on the spine locks in your grip, and the exposed tang at the rear has a lanyard hole. That is a lot of working blade for under 4 ounces.
Spartan runs CPM MagnaCut at 61 to 63 HRC, so the edge stays keen through daily work and the steel shrugs off sweat from close carry. Blades wear SpartaCoat Tungsten DLC black or ZrN flat dark earth. Our knife steel guide compares MagnaCut with the other premium stainless steels.
The handle uses minimal inset G10 scales in black or green, which keeps the knife slim enough for concealed carry. The Kydex sheath comes with an inside-the-waistband loop for discreet carry and a fast draw, in black, coyote, or tan on our shelf. That makes the Phrike an easy fit with other tactical EDC gear.
The Formido drops the handle scales for a flatter skeletonized build with a 3.875 inch straight back blade. The Enyo is the 2.6875 inch skeletonized knife for neck carry. Pick the Phrike when you want the most handle to hold onto in a carry size. For a full-size fighter from the same designers, step up to the 5.375 inch Ares.
