Exotac machines fire starting gear the way other companies build folders. The family owned shop just outside Atlanta, Georgia was founded by a Purdue engineering graduate and has gone vertically integrated, so nearly every step happens in its own factory. Exotac designs everything around its "Gear for life" motto, which means replaceable rods, threaded caps, spare O-rings in the box, and a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
The fireROD was built to ride in the ferro loop on a bushcraft knife sheath, packing a replaceable ferro rod good for more than 5,000 strikes into a 6061 aluminum body with a capsule for tinder or water purification tablets. The fireROD XL goes bigger and adds repair tape that doubles as fire starter. The nanoSTRIKER XL rides a keychain with a tungsten carbide striker and a 1/4 inch rod rated for more than 3,000 strikes, and the polySTRIKER XL swaps aluminum for recyclable ABS and stretches to 10,000. Refill rods in 2.4 and 3.1 inch lengths keep the bodies working long after the first rod is gone.
The titanLIGHT burns standard lighter fluid inside a machined aluminum body sealed with two O-rings, rated waterproof to one meter and built to stop the evaporation that empties a regular lighter in a drawer. Vents below the flame cut wind disturbance, the flame guard comes off without tools, and the bottom cap unscrews for refills and wick service. Wick and flint kits keep it running for decades. The fireSLEEVE does the same for a Bic, floating and staying dry to three feet.
The tinderZIP hides a 60 second waterproof tinder core in a zipper pull, quickLIGHT tabs come twelve to a pack, and the waterproof MATCHCAP XL holds stormproof matches with room for tinder. candleTIN emergency candles come in Hot Burn and Slow Burn.
The xREEL is a pocket handline fishing kit, and the reelKIT inserts made with Grim Workshop stack hunting, gaff, and fishing tools onto it. The FREEkey system and BMQR .380 magnetic release handle your keys, while the ripSPOOL and toolROLL round out a kit that pairs naturally with an EmberLit stove and the rest of our outdoor survival gear.
