AISI 5160 High Carbon Steel Blades
Heritage Knives forges their kukri blades from AISI 5160 high carbon steel, a spring steel alloy known for toughness and impact resistance. Each blade is oil quenched and heat treated to 58 HRC, providing edge retention for chopping, cutting, and heavy outdoor use. The 5160 steel offers flexibility to withstand repeated impacts while maintaining a functional edge. Some models also use 52100 steel, another high carbon option chosen for specific blade patterns.
WW1 and WW2 Military Kukri Reproductions
The Heritage Knives catalog focuses on authentic military patterns including the M43 kukri used in WW2's Far East theater, the Classical MK3 pattern, and the post-war MK5 Gurkha BSI design still used by British forces. The company also produces WW1-era patterns like the Papu and Geddes kukris, as well as specialized designs such as the CBI Survival MK2 and Tank Crew M43.
