Medford Primus
The Medford Primus is the new flagship folder from Medford Knife & Tool, the first original Greg Medford design in years and the knife he calls the pillar the company builds from in 2026 and beyond. Medford designed the Primus as the sum of fifteen years of knife making, then machined it the hard way, a folder so deliberately complex that no one else would put it into production. Medford Primus Design and Construction
The Primus runs a 3.85 inch tumbled CPM 3V tanto blade on .260 inch stock, among the thickest blades in any production folder, carried by full 6AL-4V titanium handles and Medford's heavy frame lock. The handle is cut in a three-facet architecture, and the machining is the show, every facet of the frame reflecting the facets around it as the knife turns in the light. A sculpted titanium backstrap closes the spine, a breaker at the butt balances the blade-forward mass while adding a lanyard hole and striking point, and the titanium clip follows the facet lines and wears Greg Medford's signature as its only badge. At 9.52 ounces, it carries like the overbuilt Medford it is.
CPM 3V Toughness at a Quarter Inch Thick
CPM 3V is the American tool steel hard-use makers choose when toughness is the entire assignment, resisting the chipping and edge failure that impact and prying inflict on conventional stainless. On the Primus, that steel rides stock more than a quarter inch thick with a reinforced tanto point, making this as close to a folding fixed blade as production knifemaking currently gets.
Primus Knife Configurations
The launch lineup runs three expressions of the same knife. OS Blue titanium pairs with bronze hardware and clip, OS Bronze titanium takes flamed hardware and clip for the warmest build of the three, and OS Tumbled titanium with standard hardware strips the knife to bare machined metal. Every Primus is made entirely under one roof in Phoenix, Arizona, from raw 3V and titanium through heat treat, grinding, finishing, and assembly.
