Pro-Tech Avalon
The Pro-Tech Avalon is the biggest button lock folder in the Pro-Tech lineup, a 4.25 inch CPM MagnaCut drop point designed with Peace Neighbor, the design company founded by actor Shawn Ashmore. Ashmore drew it and Pro-Tech's team refined it for production. The result is about the size of a Buck 110 at less than half the weight, built in the Southern California shop covered in our Pro-Tech brand history.
Pro-Tech Avalon Specs
The Avalon runs 9.25 inches open and 5.25 inches closed, and the whole knife weighs 3.69 ounces. The blade is a 4.25 inch drop point in MagnaCut, Larrin Thomas's powder stainless built for toughness and corrosion resistance at the same time, covered in our knife steel guide. A long deep carry clip set for right hand tip up carry keeps that length riding low in the pocket.
Thumb Stud Button Lock Action
This is a manual knife with no flipper tab. Double thumb studs open it, and the button lock holds the blade open with no play. Press the button and the blade swings free and drops shut on its own, which makes a long blade easy to close one handed.
Avalon Handle Colors and Blade Finishes
The standard handle is knurled aluminum, textured like the checkering on a pistol grip. Colors on our shelf run black, green, red, and battleworn green and blue, plus Shipwreck anodized and a solid Del Fuego build with a black lip pearl button. Blades come stonewashed or in black DLC.
Avalon vs Malibu and Mordax
All three are Pro-Tech button locks, and the split comes down to size and how they open. The Malibu is the compact 3.25 inch flipper, and Ferrum Forge's Mordax is the midsize flipper. The Avalon is the one to buy when you want the most blade and would rather thumb it open than flick a tab.
