Pro-Tech designed the Tactical Response series around a simple premise: military and law enforcement professionals needed a folder that deploys with absolute certainty on the ten-thousandth cycle, not just the first. Every TR model shares the same foundation, Pro-Tech's coil spring firing a side-opening automatic with consistent push-button force, 6061-T6 aluminum machined to aerospace tolerances, and lockup that eliminates hesitation when it matters, hand-assembled in small batches in Southern California since 1999.
Pro-Tech TR-3, TR-4, and the Tactical Response Lineup
The TR-3 is the heart of the series and the deepest section of our shelf, one of Pro-Tech's most popular knives with law enforcement and military year after year. Its 3.5 inch blade carries a GSA contract (GS-07F-5489R) that lets federal procurement officers streamline purchasing, a contract earned across agency evaluations, and fish-scale milling on select variants solves wet-grip retention when you're cutting webbing or cordage under pressure. The TR-4 is the full-size flagship, originally designed to fulfill a specific US military requirement: a 4 inch blade, a sliding secondary safety for departments that mandate one, and a hardened 416 stainless steel glass breaker at the pommel that first responders reach for when a window has to come out now. The compact end of the line runs the TR-2, a 3 inch package with a recessed firing button that prevents pocket deployment, and the Tactical Response 5, which packs a 3.25 inch S35VN blade, slide safety, and glass breaker into the most pocket-efficient frame in the family.
Operator Variants and TR Blade Steels
The Operator configurations strip any TR to mission essentials: sterile DLC blades with no markings, blacked-out hardware, and tritium button inserts that glow for over a decade without batteries, solving the problem of indexing a deployment button in absolute darkness.
