Spyderco Military
The Spyderco Military started with one question put to Sal Glesser: if your son were going into the military, what folding knife would you send with him? His answer launched in 1996 as the first production folder with a powder metallurgy blade steel, Crucible's CPM 440V, and that decision opened the door for every premium steel folder that followed. Thirty years later the Military runs in two forms, the original Liner Lock and the Compression Lock Military 2, and the Spyderco history behind both is worth the read.
The Original Spyderco Military Liner Lock
The original keeps the formula that made its name. A 4 inch modified clip point blade in CPM S30V with a full flat grind, a nested Liner Lock set into G-10 scales, and a tip down pocket clip, all in a 4.5 ounce package that carries slimmer than its 9.5 inch open length suggests. A left handed version is in the lineup for lefties who want the classic.
Spyderco Military 2 Compression Lock
Unveiled at the 2022 BLADE Show, the Military 2 swaps the Liner Lock for the Compression Lock that made the Paramilitary 2 famous, so the blade closes without your fingers crossing its path. Larger skeletonized liners nest inside the G-10, weight drops to 4.3 ounces, and a four position clip covers tip up or tip down carry on either side. Plain, partially serrated, and fully serrated edges are all here.

CPM S30V is the standard blade, and the Military still lives up to its steel history. The Military is the knife for users who find the PM2 a size short, with more blade for camp work and heavy cutting without stepping up to a fixed blade.
