The Reate EXO-U is the most practical knife in the EXO series and the one most likely to earn a permanent spot in a pocket. It runs the same gravity deployment as the rest of the line, but instead of a fixed blade ground from premium stainless, it takes a standard replaceable utility blade. When the edge dulls you swap it in seconds for one that costs a few cents, which changes the entire economics of carrying a knife this nice.
A spring loaded catch releases the blade carrier with no tools required. Drop in any standard utility blade from a hardware store, seat it, and the knife is sharp again. That matters more than it sounds. Most people hesitate to open boxes, cut carpet, or strip insulation with a knife carrying an expensive powder metallurgy blade, because those tasks destroy an edge. The EXO-U removes the hesitation entirely. It is a jobsite tool with the fit and finish of a collector piece, and the blade is genuinely disposable.
At 5.8 inches overall, 3.5 inches closed, and 2.55 ounces, the EXO-U is the lightest model in the series by a wide margin. The blade runs 2.4 inches at .02 inch stock, which is standard utility blade geometry rather than anything Reate grinds. Deployment uses the pivoting frame and slide lock found on the EXO-M and Mini, and later runs upgraded the lock and matched its color to the handle. The pocket clip reverses for right or left hand tip down carry.
Handles are anodized aluminum across one of the widest color ranges in the catalog, covering black, silver, gold, bronze, copper, blue, dark blue, green, OD green, tan, orange, yellow, purple, and red, plus distressed finishes on the v2 runs. Blade carriers come in speed hole, diamond pattern, and plain configurations.
