Reate EXO
The Reate EXO is the knife that put gravity deployment back into serious conversation. Released in 2021 as the first model in what became an entire series, it discards springs, detents, and thumb studs in favor of a pivoting frame that lets the blade drop under its own weight and lock into place. Pinch the handle, angle the frame, and the blade slides out on nothing but physics.
How the Reate EXO Gravity Mechanism Works
The exoskeleton frame pivots away from the handle body, releasing the blade carrier to travel forward or back along its track. A reverse-position slide lock secures the blade once it reaches full extension. There is no spring driving anything, which means deployment speed depends entirely on how you move the knife, and closing is the same motion inverted. That puts the EXO in a different regulatory and practical category from spring-driven designs, and it accounts for the tactile quality owners describe. The action rewards practice in a way push-button mechanisms never do.
Reate EXO Blade Steel and Configurations
The full-size EXO runs a 3.75 inch blade at .120 inch stock, with overall length at 8.75 inches and closed length at 5 inches. Weight sits around 4.75 ounces. Blade steel splits between CPM-3V and Elmax depending on the run, with 3V bringing toughness and impact resistance while Elmax leans toward edge retention and corrosion performance; the EXO-OG configurations in the current grid run Elmax across the board. Handles are machined 6AL4V titanium in bead blast, PVD, and bronze anodized finishes, inlaid with Micarta in black, green, brown, burlap, orange, and OD green, plus orange G-10 and marbled carbon fiber on select builds. Carrying the Full Size Reate EXO
Carry is the real fork inside this grid. The classic EXO runs ship without a pocket clip and include a black leather sheath instead, a full-size platform first and a carry knife second. The EXO-OG configurations answer that with a reversible tip-down clip on the same footprint, and the EXO Mini and EXO-M shrink the platform with clipped carry as standard. For different blade geometry on the same mechanism, the EXO-K runs a karambit profile, the EXO-U takes replaceable utility blades, and the EXO-D is a push dagger.
