The Hinderer Project X launched in 2022 to mark 35 years of Rick Hinderer Knives, and it was in the works for years before that. It pulls the best features from across the lineup into one flipper, a mid-large titanium frame lock built in Shreve, Ohio that stands as the modern flagship of Rick Hinderer knives.
The textured titanium lock side, machined to match the scale liner, comes from the FireTac and Half Track. Captured frame hardware and the backspacer disassembly tool come straight from the Full Track, and the handle ergonomics trace back to the MP-1, refined here for a locked-in grip. Add the Tri-Way Pivot, the Lockbar Stabilizer, and a steel lockbar insert, and every proven Hinderer idea lives in one knife.
The clip point is the original shape, with a nimble tip for detail work and a wide blade that allows a high, slicy grind. It comes in CPM S45VN or CPM MagnaCut, including special builds with battle black blades. The sheepsfoot, in MagnaCut, trades the point for a straight edge and a blunt, controllable tip for utility work. Both run 0.165 inch stock, and our comparison of every major knife steel covers how S45VN and MagnaCut differ.
The Project X runs a 3.66 inch blade on a 5 inch handle, 8.66 inches open, at about 6.4 ounces. It is flipper only, with an integral flipper that doubles as a finger guard and spine jimping for control. The titanium clip carries it tip up on the right side. That size makes it a true all day work knife that still rides in a pocket.
The patented Hinderer Modular Backspacer System lets the backspacer come off as a tool that breaks the whole knife down for cleaning, and our HMBS hardware adds swappable backspacers. Special Project X builds wear horse head titanium, FatCarbon, and Micarta scales with anodized hardware, and our Hinderer parts and accessories cover the rest.
