Three Rivers Manufacturing introduced the Neutron 2 in 2018 as the direct successor to the original Neutron, built in response to owners who wanted a deeper carry pocket clip and a wider scale catalog without giving up the thin, slicey blade geometry that made the first version a favorite among American made knife enthusiasts. Every TRM Neutron 2 is 100 percent manufactured and assembled in the USA, with USA proudly etched on the blade and a limited lifetime warranty standing behind the materials and craftsmanship.
The standard Neutron 2 runs a 3 inch full flat ground blade over pocketed 6AL/4V titanium liners, a design choice that keeps weight down to 2.5 ounces in flat G10 while making scale swaps genuinely easy rather than theoretically possible. The custom titanium thumbstuds and barrel spacers carry over unchanged from the original Neutron. The Titanium Neutron 2 replaces composite scales with precision machined full titanium handles in 3D contoured or fine satin finished flat configurations at 3.05 ounces. The Neutron 2 Framelock, which debuted at Blade Show Texas, is the strongest evolution of the platform, moving to a 2.95 inch blade cut from thicker .120 inch stock with a flat grind that carries a near hollow ground appearance. Our guide to knife lock types breaks down how linerlocks and framelocks compare in practice.
Linerlock and titanium models are offered in CPM MagnaCut and CPM 20CV, both finished with a deburring and two stage ceramic tumble and polish that arrives razor sharp from the shop. MagnaCut delivers a rare combination of corrosion resistance and toughness, while 20CV brings serious edge retention for long stretches between sharpenings. The framelock runs CPM 20CV exclusively. For a deeper look at how these steels stack up, see our reference on every major knife steel compared.
The Neutron 2 platform supports flat, 3D smooth, and textured scales in carbon fiber, Fat Carbon, CamoCarbon G10, and micarta, and the pocketed liner design means changing the look of your knife takes minutes. Our knife handle materials guide covers how each option carries and wears. A deep carry titanium clip comes standard with an optional classic bent clip available.
