North Edge Tools is the one man shop of Dustin North, who designs and handcrafts compact fixed blade knives in his Colorado shop. North spent his early career as an engineer in the U.S. Air Force and made his first knife in college, filing the bevels by hand on his apartment couch and heat treating it outside. Today he builds every knife and does his own Kydex and leather work, with a stated mission of quality, cost approachable, handcrafted tools. Find more small shop work in the DLT Custom Shop.
The Osprey EDC is a harpoon drop point scaled down from North's original Osprey, available in bog oak, redwood, black Richlite with a G-carta inlay, and two custom handles built by Flying Shark Knives (one, two). The Nomad shares its dimensions in a pocket sized pattern, in black Richlite with a glass inlay or Sugi TruStone and Richlite. The Raven runs a thin hollow compound grind with a slight recurve in Blue Canyon Richlite (two individual pieces), and the Meridian is a bird and trout knife for fishing and hunting in paper Micarta, OD green GripX, or Maple Valley Richlite.
North works in CPM MagnaCut and AEB-L, two stainless steels covered in our knife steel guide. MagnaCut balances edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, while fine grained AEB-L takes a very keen edge. Blades are 3 inches long on a 6.75 inch frame, finished bead blasted or acid washed. Handles range from Richlite, Micarta, GripX, and TruStone to bog oak and redwood, all explained in our knife handle materials guide.
The Osprey EDC, Nomad, and Raven ship in North's deep pocket Kydex sheath, made in house, and the Meridian ships in a leather belt sheath. North also sharpens his own knives for owners on request.
