Hogue Knives is the cutlery division of Hogue Inc., the family owned grip and stock maker Guy Hogue founded in 1968. Launched around 2010 with custom maker Allen Elishewitz and led by master toolmaker Jim Bruhns, it machines, heat treats, and hand sharpens every knife in Henderson, Nevada, backed by a limited lifetime warranty. The catalog runs from everyday carry folding knives and automatics to tactical and hunting fixed blades and licensed lines for two of the biggest names in firearms.
Hogue's signature ABLE Lock, short for Ambidextrous Bar Lock Enhanced, is a patented crossbar that releases the same from either hand. It drives the featherweight Hogue Deka and the MagnaCut Hogue Mysto. Button locks run the Hogue Ballista and the rest of the Hogue automatic knives, the springless Hogue X5 flipper, and the thrust bearing Hogue Saxum Collector Series folder. Double action out the front models, led by the Counterstrike, Exploit, and Compound, live under Hogue OTF knives.
Hogue matches steel to the job. CPM MagnaCut at 62 to 64 HRC carries the Mysto, polymer Deka, Ballista II, and Micro Counterstrike, and the new CPM MagnaMax debuts on the Saxum. CPM 20CV runs the Counterstrike, S30V the SIG K320 and Exploit, CPM 154 the X5, 154CM the Ballista I and HK OTFs, A2 the EX-F01, S7 the EX-T01 tomahawk, and M4 the Extrak. Every blade is cryogenically treated, and our comparison of every major knife steel and guide to knife handle materials cover the whole roster.
The Hogue fixed blade knives start with the quarter inch A2 EX-F01 combat knife and the EX-F03 neck knife. Hunters get the ultralight Extrak XL, and Scott Bruhns's Bone Flex and Fillet Flex bring MagnaCut and Richlite to game and fish processing.
Hogue builds the official SIG Sauer knives in the same plant, led by the K320 folders in P320 frame texture for the Nitron, M17, and AXG lines. HK Knives by Hogue covers the Heckler & Koch side, from the Exemplar and First Response Tool to the Hadron and Incursion OTFs and the Ballista XL, the first automatic ABLE Lock Hogue built.
