The Leatherman Arc is the first pliers-based multi-tool built around CPM MagnaCut steel, the powder stainless that's reset expectations for knife performance across the industry. When Leatherman released the Arc, it marked the brand's push into premium steel territory previously reserved for dedicated folding knives. Two variants currently carry the model: the original Arc with DLC-coated stainless steel handles, and the Arc Talos with a Bronze Cerakote finish applied over the same stainless substrate.
MagnaCut combines edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance in one alloy, which eliminates the usual trade-offs that force other knife steels into compromise. The Arc's 2.76-inch drop-point blade runs a black DLC coating for an extra layer of corrosion protection and a uniform dark finish. The rest of the tool set runs 420HC and 440C stainless across the file, scissors, and secondary implements that see lighter-duty work. Leatherman covers MagnaCut blade owners with free sharpening service, which is worth knowing if you plan to run this tool hard.
Every feature on the Arc except the plier head is outside-accessible and one-hand operable through Leatherman's FREE magnetic architecture. There's no fingernail nick to hunt for and no fighting the tool open against spring tension. Each implement locks independently when deployed, and the unlocking lever is intuitive enough to run blind once you've put a few sessions through it. The thumb stud on the main blade is a departure from Leatherman's traditional hole-based deployment and reads immediately as a knife-forward design choice.
The functional tool set is identical across both variants. What separates them is finish. The original Arc runs DLC-coated two-tone stainless steel handles, pulling double duty as corrosion protection and aesthetic anchor. The Arc Talos adds a Bronze Cerakote coating over the same stainless core, giving the tool an earthy dark brown appearance and additional abrasion resistance. Both measure 4.25 inches closed and weigh 8.6 ounces. Choose by finish preference, since performance is equivalent.
The Arc carries 20 integrated tools, including needlenose and regular pliers, replaceable wire and hard-wire cutters, spring-action scissors, a diamond-coated file, saw, awl, and large and small bit drivers. The large driver accepts standard Leatherman bits and pairs with the Leatherman Bit Kit for extended capability. The Arc does not include a sheath or bit kit in the box, so factor those accessories into the build if you need them.
