Leatherman Raptor Shears

The Leatherman Raptor is the brand's dedicated folding trauma shear, developed with input from EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and special operations medics who needed a single tool that could cut clothing, breach glass, cut straps, and fit in a duty pouch or scrub pocket. Two current models carry the Raptor platform: the original Raptor Rescue with a full emergency tool set, and the newer Raptor Response in a lighter, more compact configuration.

Raptor Rescue for Full Emergency Response

The Raptor Rescue carries five emergency tools beyond the shears themselves: a strap cutter for seatbelts and webbing, a ring cutter for removing rings from swollen fingers, an oxygen tank wrench, a carbide glass breaker for vehicle extractions, and a ruler marked in centimeters and inches. The 420HC stainless steel shears fold to 5 inches and weigh around 5.6 ounces. The blunt tip prevents accidental skin cuts when removing clothing from a patient. Glass-filled nylon handle scales resist impact and chemical exposure. The Rescue ships with an injection-molded polymer holster that mounts to either a duty belt or MOLLE webbing and accepts the tool in both open and closed positions.

Raptor Response for Compact Everyday Carry

The Raptor Response is the smaller, lighter Raptor built for EMS professionals who want the core shear capability without the full vehicular extraction tool set. It carries four tools: the shears, ring cutter, ruler, and oxygen tank wrench. The glass breaker and strap cutter are dropped, which cuts overall length and weight enough to fit in a standard EMS pants scissor pocket. The Response replaces the glass-filled nylon handles with contoured aluminum scales finished in ceramic coating, and swaps the polymer holster for a pocket clip. Micro-serrated cutting edges on the inner blade prevent fabric from slipping during cuts.

Shared Features and Colorways

Both Raptor models use the same 420HC stainless steel shear geometry, lock open for controlled cutting, and fold flat for carry. DLT stocks the Raptor Rescue in utility blue, yellow, and black, along with coyote and black with Molle sheath. The Raptor Response is available in Crimson, Navy, and Grey.
