The Leatherman Skeletool Multi-Tool is the skeletonized evolution of the brand's multi-tool platform and the highest SKU count in the DLT Leatherman lineup. What started as a pared-down alternative to the Wave has grown into a four-variant family spanning full-feature multi-tools and knife-only pocket tools. Skeletool and Skeletool CX Full Multi-Tools

The Skeletool and Skeletool CX are the full multi-tool variants, each running seven tools in a 5-ounce, 4-inch closed frame. Both carry needlenose and regular pliers, replaceable wire and hard-wire cutters, a single knife blade, a combination carabiner and bottle opener, and a large bit driver that accepts Leatherman's standard interchangeable bits. The difference comes down to steel: the Skeletool runs a 420HC combo blade at 52 HRC, while the CX upgrades to a 154CM straight-edge blade at 58 to 60 HRC with DLC coating. The CX gives you better edge retention and a harder blade. The Skeletool gives you serration versatility for rope and fibrous work in a softer but easier-to-sharpen steel.

Skeletool KB and KBX Pocket Knives

The Skeletool KB and KBX strip the platform to a two-tool pocket knife: a 420HC blade and the carabiner bottle opener clip. No pliers, no bit driver. Weight drops to 1.3 ounces and closed length to 3.45 inches, which puts these in true minimalist EDC territory. The KB runs a straight-edge 420HC blade. The KBX runs the same steel in a combo configuration with a serrated rear section. Both use 6061-T6 hard-anodized aluminum handles with DLC coating on the blade.
