Auxiliary Manufacturing is the work of Michael Jarvis, who spent 15 years in restaurants going from dishwasher to executive chef to general manager. Pocket pry bars started as a side project, then other pocket tools, then knives. When he left the industry to help a sick family member, the hobby became the job. AUX MFG took its name from the Auxiliary Art Center in Chicago where it began, and set up shop in Reno, Nevada in 2016.
The handmade fixed blades are still the standard everything else gets measured against, with every wrap and scale applied by hand in the Reno shop. The AUX MFG Pocket Bowie shrinks the clip point to a 2.75 inch carry knife, the 1.75 inch Tsume rides as a neck knife in stingray wrap, and the Rev, Coffin Spear, Coffin Leaf, and Pocket Lint fill out the line. Most run darkwashed AEB-L, a stainless our knife steel guide covers in depth.
The Deadhead Series takes Jarvis's designs into production with Miguron Knives, holding tight tolerances across every run. The Pocket Bowie Deadhead and 3 inch Karl Jr Deadhead are fixed blades in 14C28N with Micarta or G10. The 2 inch Runt and Runt XL make a practical neck knife or backup blade.
The Pocket Bowie and Coffin Tanto shapes carry over into folding knives. The Crossbar models run 14C28N in Micarta, G10, or milled aluminum. The Framelock, Slipjoint, and XL models step up to M390 in milled titanium.
Jarvis works well with others. The Sgain Dubh is an S35VN fixed blade built with Hyper AUX, Big Idea Design machined a titanium Pocket Bowie in M390, and the Wicket XL Captain's Edition came out of a collab with Knives by Nuge.
