7Forge Knives started in 2017 when Tim Ogg heated a piece of rebar in his nephew's makeshift foundry and struck it with a hammer. That simple moment ignited an obsession that grew into Iowa's largest semi-production knife company. Together with Jessie Wipperman, a Forged in Fire champion, Tim builds hand-ground knives in their Des Moines shop using traditional forging techniques and modern materials.
The backward 7 stamped on every blade serves as their maker's mark—a reminder of the humble tools gifted by Tim's father and the blue-collar roots that still define their approach to knife making.
7Forge specializes in full-tang knives built for hunters, outdoorsmen, and anyone who needs a blade they can rely on. Models like the Orso hunting knife, Beartooth camp knife, and Catalyst bushcraft design feature 80CrV2 high-carbon steel with convex grinds and tapered tangs. Each blade is hand-ground without jigs, and every handle is shaped from blocky scales into contoured, ergonomic designs.
Handle materials range from canvas micarta to natural woods like Honduran rosewood, selected for durability and grip when wet. Every 7Forge knife includes a handmade leather sheath and comes backed by an unlimited lifetime warranty.
Jessie Wipperman won Season 9, Episode 25 of Forged in Fire, and both he and Tim learned forging techniques from Donavon Phillips of Big D Knives, a former Bladesports World Champion. That combination of competition-tested skill and traditional craftsmanship shows in the fit, finish, and performance of every knife that leaves their Ogden, Iowa shop.
Every 7Forge knife is backed by an unlimited warranty and complimentary spa services to keep your blade sharp and functional for life. These aren't safe-queen knives meant to sit in a display case—they're working tools designed to be carried, used hard, and passed down.
